Why the CQC is about to make some care companies VERY nervous... The Care Quality Commission (CQC) recently announced their new 2021 strategy for inspecting care homes and other relevant organisations within the care sector. As a training company, we were naturally curious to know how this was going to impact on us indirectly, and the companies that we work with directly. ADHD, slayer of minds and destroyer of families. I 've given this a lot of thought. ADHD, and what it means to live with it, I mean. These aren't just 'naughty kids that have grown up naughty', this is something far more sinister, far more insidious; its tendrils burrowing their way into every fibre of their emotional and psychological wellbeing, destroying them from within like a noxious weed, eating away at their emotions and life strategies leaving them often unable to cope in a normality generated by the whims of a broader neurotypical society.

Dinosaur and Microchips Well, at 62 years old, I've finally been dragged kicking and screaming into the 21st Century, and I have a few other dinosaurs in my wake...not in age (sorry Marianne!) but in the ways of new-fangled technology and all this fancy stuff you kids are all so fond of. "But it ain't my job!" On a well known social media site, a question was raised as to whether as a care assistant, it's normal to undertake the role of a domestic or cleaner during your shift. “Albert's new mate...Stan” Those of you who have ever undertaken Safeguarding training with me will no doubt remember Albert (who could forget that humorous old Lothario with his Sunday Sport!). Albert came to me one day as a way of answering a delegates question about the principles of the Mental Capacity Act, and how we test for capacity, and put simply, he just never left. Now a staple of my adult safeguarding sessions (he even gets his own chair!), he has a new mate I expect to be hearing a lot more from, who was introduced to me last night. In a dream, as it happens...

“This means war!” This is a declaration of war upon those training companies who routinely rip off committed, conscientious and professional trainers. Yet again today, I’ve lost a day’s work through miscommunication, and possibly three days because someone got dates wrong in a confirmation email. There was a time when I’d have got right cheesed off with this, but today, I’m just frustrated with it all. The sad truth is that this happens frequently to other trainers too, and frankly, enough is enough. July 15th 2022 “Arghhh! How Much??!!” On the back of my last blog, about how some people feel entitled to cancel our services as freelance healthcare trainers, and how it doesn't occur to them that we have bills to pay as well, Marianne (2M Training - you should check them out!) and I thought we'd give you some perspective... December 23rd 2022 “Out of the shadows and into the light” All of us, man, woman, and child, has a basic human need to contribute to the society, family, club, clan, or group with whom they most interact. It validates us. It makes us feel 'we belong'. Withdrawal of that need only grants us a sense of alienation and isolation from that group. You see, I unequivocally believe that human beings are driven by two things and two things only; what they see, and what they feel. These in turn, drive our behaviours.
