Why the CQC is about to make some care companies VERY nervous...
The
Care
Quality
Commission
(CQC)
recently
announced
their
new
2021
strategy
for
inspecting
care
homes
and
other
relevant
organisations
within
the
care
sector.
As
a
training
company,
we
were
naturally
curious
to
know
how
this
was
going
to
impact
on
us
indirectly,
and
the
companies that we work with directly. We were pleasantly surprised; some care companies though, probably not so much...

ADHD, slayer of minds and destroyer of families.
I
've given this a lot of thought. ADHD, and what it means to live with it, I mean.
These
aren't
just
'naughty
kids
that
have
grown
up
naughty',
this
is
something
far
more
sinister,
far
more
insidious;
its
tendrils
burrowing
their
way
into
every
fibre
of
their
emotional
and
psychological
wellbeing,
destroying
them
from
within
like
a
noxious
weed,
eating
away
at
their
emotions and life strategies leaving them often unable to cope in a normality generated by the whims of a broader neurotypical society.

Dinosaur and Microchips
Well,
at
62
years
old,
I've
finally
been
dragged
kicking
and
screaming
into
the
21st
Century,
and
I
have
a
few
other
dinosaurs
in
my
wake...not
in
age (sorry Marianne!) but in the ways of new-fangled technology and all this fancy stuff you kids are all so fond of. But we're getting there...

"But it ain't my job!"
On
a
well
known
social
media
site,
a
question
was
raised
as
to
whether
as
a
care
assistant,
it's
normal
to
undertake
the
role
of
a
domestic
or
cleaner during your shift. As an ex-nurse, and now as a highly qualified and experienced trainer, my simple answer is a short one. yes.
The
longer,
and
more
qualified
answer,
is
perhaps
not
so
simple.
Its
a
very
complex
issue,
a
highly
emotive
one,
and
I
suspect,
one
that
comes
down to personal ethic.

“Albert's new mate...Stan”
T
hose
of
you
who
have
ever
undertaken
Safeguarding
training
with
me
will
no
doubt
remember
Albert
(who
could
forget
that
humorous
old
Lothario
with
his
Sunday
Sport!).
Albert
came
to
me
one
day
as
a
way
of
answering
a
delegates
question
about
the
principles
of
the
Mental
Capacity
Act,
and
how
we
test
for
capacity,
and
put
simply,
he
just
never
left.
Now
a
staple
of
my
adult
safeguarding
sessions
(he
even
gets
his
own chair!), he has a new mate I expect to be hearing a lot more from, who was introduced to me last night. In a dream, as it happens...
